Road Ecology Research Group

Road Ecology Work Group

Road Ecology is the study of the interactions between road systems and the surrounding natural environment. The ROAD ECOLOGY RESEARCH GROUP from Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade de Lisboa (FCUL) is comprised of diverse investigators that study the effects and relations between wildlife and road networks

The goal of this group is to raise awareness about the threat of roads to biodiversity in Portugal, and to research and apply solutions to diverse situations and species.

Our projects focus from species-specific requirements in a particular road, as Iberian wolf in highway A24, to several species in a more broad landscape perspective, as the study of predator-highway relation, held within BRISA highways in southern Portugal.

We have partnerships with major transportation companies, as BRISA and AENOR, which enables us to develop a research that result in the implementation of mitigation measures in proper locations and with adequate for species requirements.
